Pine Eye by Oddeum Pine Eye by Oddeum
From my Project Hedgehog stories. In the series, I have a lot of variants of classic fairy tales and such; one of them is a VERY changed story of Pinocchio. The fellow shown above is a fairy, named Pine Eye, who was raised by the Turquoise Fairy - she spoilt him, and he was much hated by other fairies, but he was not evil. One unpleasant fairy owned a forest, which Pine Eye tried to take from him, so the fairy (old and more powerful than Pine Eye) decapitated him.
The Turquoise Fairy hearing about her sons death, went on a rampage and killed the fairy. Then she used forbidden black magic and carved for her son a head made from wood. She tricked some other Turquoise Fairies into making for her eyes that could see, made from the heart of two ancient pines.
To hide his frightening head from others, Pine Eye wore a mask of enchanted pine bark. A mask that looked like a forest.
Because his memories were gone after being decapitated, and his new head was made using black magic, Pine Eye began to slowly become crazier and more evil as the years passed. He became too dangerous, so his mother hid him in a forest and now keeps him there as prisoner so he can't hurt anyone.

...So naturally I make my four main kobold characters go in there! Yay! This is a story for children!

Tools: Watercolors, sepia ink + dip pen, black ink, white ink, gel pen, and paintshop.

The painting itself is magnificently detailed, very fascinating, and altogether beautiful.
Of course it's an illustration of a story for children.

bloddy hell, that was one interesting story for the lack of lenght it had, now now, im not saying a story has to have thousand of words to be incredible, im just saying its not common and you made it happen. as for the actual drawing, its absolutely lovely, please do keep bringing such remarkable fantasies to paper. :>

That sounds fun! I have seen some very lovely collage art but I don't think it suits my illustrative style...I'm working up the courage to try dried flowers, though!

Not collage art. I use mediums such as colored mists and sprays like these www.lindystampgang.com/moon-sh… and especially Distress Ink by Ranger rangerink.com/?product=tim-hol… that is used to dye paper, it creates lovely color schemes and frames, it can be used with water for various splatter effect. I'm not a fan of collage art nor scrapbooking itself ;) Also there is a texture medium from Faber Castell www.fabercastell.com/design-me… and Goosebumps Texture spray from Tsukineko www.sears.com/search=tsukineko…, I find them both better than acrylic texture mediums.

Sorry for the very late reply :XD:
I wanted to try them out and then realized they don't sell them in my local art supply store, than I eventually found them on ebay for reasonable prices - in summation, just wanted to say I'm gonna try these puppies out! They look super interesting, and I'm always looking for news way to create textures in my paintings!
Thanks so much for the recommendations!
