Another Wednesday Walk by Oddeum Another Wednesday Walk by Oddeum
In celebration of my four year anniversary on DA (in three days it will be) I redid one of the first paintings I uploaded here:
Wednesday Walk by Odditorium
Look at how much my art has changed! And my anatomy is so much better.

Thanks so much everyone for all the support, encouragement, and kindness I received here! Every comment means so much to me.
I'd like to give special thanks to :iconpeachfuzz:
You were the first comment I got on DA and it was such a thrill to see it appear in my inbox; your amazing words made me feel very welcomed here

Tools: Schmincke Horadam watercolor, sepia ink + dip pen, white ink, paintshop

What an inspired piece! This is interesting. It would make a nice setting to a mythical story or a fantasy novel - like you need anymore ideas :P
On a more technical side, the whale is truly well done and I love the tree reflections in the orange water - it gived the whole piece a long-lost mythical feel to it that I particularly like. Kudos - once again - for a job well done!
Oh, and congrats on your 4 year anniversery :D

Wow, your improvement over the years is incredible! I loved the old original from four years ago, and this shows amazing improvement in all ways without losing the things that made the original great.

The anatomy is definitely an area where you have improved conspicuously. The human figure looks more realistic... And so does the whale, in spite of the surreal additions to its body. The extra eyes and fins make it ooze fantasy, and the barnacles adorn it like jewelry. It has such a whimsical look to it.

I also love how you retained the hot-versus-cold color scheme of the original while enhancing the awesomeness of it. Using water for the majority of the ground must have been a lot more challenging than the grass used in the original, but it does an amazing job of showing off your impressive skill. The transparency, ripples, and reflections on the water are WOW. Great job using the hot and cold colors to indicate develop depth and composition, instead of just focusing on the base colors. For instance, the flame-colored boughs become blue with distance, and the blue water reflects red from the boughs above it. Genius. Overall, this is stunning.

I'm so glad that you have continued to hang around DA and share your wonderful art with all of us. Keep it up!

I hope to be as good at leaving comments as you are one day. You put so much genuine appreciation and thought into them; I just see something I like and leave a comment like "Is good. I like."

Thanks so much for your amazing words  And for that encouragement so many years ago ^ ^

My pleasure! And thanks! Reaching out and letting someone know you enjoy their work is the most important thing, I'd say. I just type fast and blather a lot.

Wow!!! I see a lot of progress indeed. But you can see that you already had your own 'handwriting' in the first painting too. Very recognisable. I hope you keep posting on dA forever, it's Always a pleasure seeing something new of yours!

Awww, thanks so much! I hope to be on DA for as along as I have anything to post ^ ^
Looking back, I did have the kernels of my original style, which is so strange as I wasn't exactly 'trying' to have a style.

A bit of a late response, but good to hear. I'm hoping to have my own 'handwriting' in painting once. Maybe I already have and will recognize it years later. Anyway,... have a nice day.

Whales are so strange and weird, I love them There's something surreal about just how massively large they are.

Aren't they though?! I just feel privileged to be living at the same time as the largest creatures to have ever been on Earth

I feel privileged not having to live in the same time period as THESE THINGS pbs.twimg.com/media/BvO3MOMCYA…
(not the giraffe, the big bird monster)

I can't fathom walking outdoors and having to bolt back in because a quetzalcoatlus was in my yard. Thank goodness they're extinct.
At the same time I would kind of like to live in the same time as them??
They fascinate me...*0*

You're right. The first one was very nicely done but this one shows a great deal of skill and restraint. The drawing is elegant, the colors subtle, and the open spaces pull our eyes toward the main figures. It'd definitely a painting that tells its own story. Congratulations!
